Active Learner
From a very young age I was always very curious and eager to learn. Although I always enjoyed school, as I grew older I quickly realized I was more hands-on and enjoyed real life experiences. I was constantly looking for opportunities to achieve this way of learning, but was not fully exposed to them until I entered college at Loras. The guidance I received provided assistance in this type of learning and allowed me to grow as a student and an individual.
I was able to work closely with a local Dubuque company, 86Vintage. My role was to help give suggestions on how this business could improve their social media platforms and website. This was something I had learned about in my Marketing courses, but had not yet had the opportunity to actually do in a real life situation. Loras providing the opportunity to work hand in hand with an actual business allowed for large strides in my field of study and made me a more confident Marketer as I entered the professional world. However, there is more to learn about than Dubuque, Iowa. In fact there is an entire globe I have the freedom to explore. I had the chance to research different parts of the world through social media for my Global Marketing Plan Paper. Technology has become an integral part of society all over the world and that is why global social media was so interesting to explore. This paper allowed me to not only continue to develop my knowledge of marketing, but the ability to look at tendencies in other countries as well. |

Responsible Contributor
Throughout my four years I have been able to develop in my field of study and as an individual in society. Connecting with and hearing peoples' stories is something that is very important to me. Hearing different point of views, ways of life, and opinions has contributed to my growth and I believe that I have to take these lessons and share them in a positive way.
I have been lucky enough to obtain two internships during my time here thanks to the help of Loras. My current is here on campus in the Alumni Office. This opportunity has allowed me to meet and connect with alumni. My time here has made me realize the importance of staying active as an alumnae looking forward to graduation. My very first internship was at a nonprofit, Resources Unite, where I believe I learned some of the most important lessons I ever have in life. This opportunity allowed me to serve the community outside of the college in the most rewarding way possible. Not only did I have the ability to meet with clients in need and lead them in the right direction, but I was able to offer ideas and values to people throughout the Greater Dubuque Area. I can not even begin to describe how thankful I am for being given the chance to work at Resources Unite. I made unbelievable connections, learned more than I could ever imagine, and enjoyed going into work and serving others every single day. Coming into college as a freshman is not easy for anyone, but luckily Loras offered a first year class for all students called Modes of Inquiry. During this course I was able to visit a local business whose mission is to serve the community in a positive way. Our visit to The Convivium Urban Farmstead offered knowledge of the diversity in the Dubuque community and added an urge to make a difference in whatever community I am a part of. |
